The evolution of morals under indirect reciprocity

چکیده
We theoretically and experimentally study the evolution of strategies reflecting different moral judgments under indirect reciprocity. fully characterize asymptotically stable sets rest points. In all cooperative points multiple coexist. This offers an explanation for heterogeneity in among humans. The behavior prescribed by predicted can rationalize design real-life reputation systems, which are set up to resolve problems hazard. our laboratory experiment, we find that more than 75% participants play belong strategies.

The Evolution of Indirect Reciprocity
Human societies are based on cooperation among large numbers of genetically unrelated individuals. This behavior is puzzling from an evolutionary perspective. Because cooperators are unrelated it cannot be the result of kin selection, and the large scale seems to preclude explanations based on direct reciprocity. Alexander (1987) has proposed that large-scale cooperation among humans can be und...
متن کاملEvolution of cooperation under indirect reciprocity and arbitrary exploration rates
Cooperation has been recognized as an evolutionary puzzle since Darwin, and remains identified as one of the biggest challenges of the XXIst century. Indirect Reciprocity (IR), a key mechanism that humans employ to cooperate with each other, establishes that individual behaviour depends on reputations, which in turn evolve depending on social norms that classify behaviours as good or bad. While...
متن کاملIndirect Reciprocity under Incomplete Observation
Indirect reciprocity, in which individuals help others with a good reputation but not those with a bad reputation, is a mechanism for cooperation in social dilemma situations when individuals do not repeatedly interact with the same partners. In a relatively large society where indirect reciprocity is relevant, individuals may not know each other's reputation even indirectly. Previous studies i...

The question of cooperation is crucial for understanding Darwinian evolution. Theories of cooperation have been based on kin selection, group selection3−5, and reciprocal altruism6−9. The idea of reciprocal altruism usually involves direct reciprocity: repeated encounters between the same individuals allow for the return of an altruistic act by the recipient10−16. Here we present a new theoreti...
متن کاملEvolution of direct and indirect reciprocity.
Indirect reciprocity (IR) occurs when individuals help those who help others. It is important as a potential explanation for why people might develop cooperative reputations. However, previous models of IR are based on the assumption that individuals never meet again. Yet humans and other animals often interact repeatedly within groups, thereby violating the fundamental basis of these models. W...
